Why the Falklands War is coming up before the England-Argentina semi-final
The Falklands War is a topic of conversation leading up to the FIFA World Cup semi-final between England and Argentina due to the 1982 conflict between the two nations over the Falkland Islands. Argentina launched an invasion of the British-governed territory, known locally as Las Malvinas, which prompted the UK to deploy military forces and reclaim the islands. The 74-day conflict resulted in more than 900 deaths. Although the islands are currently under British administration, Argentina continues to assert its claim over the territory.
