Russ Salakhutdinov, a professor at Carnegie Mellon University, shared that Moonshot founder Zhilin Yang opted to head back to China even after Apple extended a job offer. Salakhutdinov, who served as Yang’s PhD advisor, noted that Yang felt he would experience regret if he didn't return to his home country to launch his own company. Moonshot has since introduced Kimi K3, a model the firm asserts can compete with top-tier AI technology from OpenAI and Anthropic.
