Why did small-cap investors face a 1.6% loss despite 14.8% fund returns?
According to a report by DSP Mutual Fund, small-cap funds achieved a CAGR of 14.8% between March 2013 and June 2020, yet investors experienced a 1.6% loss during the same timeframe. DSP highlighted that ₹17,000 crore was poured into small-cap funds during the 2013-2017 market surge, while an additional ₹27,000 crore was invested between 2018 and 2020, a period marked by a market decline. Because a large number of investors did not remain invested for the full seven-year duration, many ended up with negative returns.
