Who is Misir Besra, the Maoist leader captured after 20 years on the run?
Misir Besra, the final active Central Committee and Politburo member of the outlawed CPI (Maoist), has been taken into custody following two decades as a fugitive. Originally from Pirtand in Jharkhand, Besra had a reward of more than ₹1 crore on his head and has been involved in the Maoist insurgency for four decades. He was initially detained in September 2007, but managed to escape after Maoist rebels raided a court complex to liberate him in 2009.
