White phosphorus spill detected at US military base in South Korea
Officials in South Korea have confirmed a white phosphorus leak at the American Osan Air Base, located near Seoul. This chemical is extremely hazardous, as it catches fire immediately when exposed to air and can lead to intense thermal and chemical injuries that penetrate to the bone. It is typically utilized for battlefield lighting and in smoke grenades. The Osan facility is home to the US military's F-16 fighter jets.
