In compliance with a 2024 Calcutta High Court ruling, West Bengal has struck 77 Muslim groups from its OBC category through two fresh bills. These legislative moves also lowered the overall OBC reservation quota from 10% down to 7%. State Minister Gourisankar Ghosh stated that these groups were originally included by the TMC administration specifically to provide extra advantages to the Muslim community.
