VHP protest leads to cancellation of JNU professor's Independence Day address; speech held virtually
JNU professor emerita Zoya Hasan was scheduled to be the chief guest at the Independence Day event at Sardar Patel Vidyalaya, but her address was called off after protests broke out outside the school premises, reportedly involving Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) members. While the VHP rejected claims of their involvement in the demonstration, they expressed support for the decision to cancel the speech. Hasan eventually gave her talk, titled 'Why Pluralism Matters,' via an online platform the following day.
