Uttarakhand Waqf Board mandates registered qazis for marriages under new nikahnama
The Uttarakhand Waqf Board has prepared a fresh nikahnama that complies with the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) regulations. Under this updated framework, only officially registered 'qazis' or 'maulanas' will have the authority to perform wedding ceremonies. According to Shadab Shams, the head of the Uttarakhand Waqf Board, these 'maulanas' will be issued a unique identification number (UID). He noted that this initiative is intended to help prevent instances of what is referred to as 'love jihad'.
