On Monday, Uttar Pradesh Congress President Ajay Rai was taken into custody while traveling to the site of a demolished mosque located in the Saharanpur Collectorate complex. According to the party, the police intercepted the Congress delegation, which was heading to meet with the mosque committee members, and transported them to the Police Lines in Lucknow. Previously, Rai had described the demolition as "deeply unfortunate".
