Chennai authorities have taken five more individuals into custody regarding the investigation into an alleged ₹35-crore bribery attempt targeting TVK legislator N Elaiyaraja. This brings the total number of arrests in the case to eight. According to police, the suspects plotted to offer the bribe to secure the MLA's support for a planned no-confidence motion against the speaker. Elaiyaraja reported that he faced threats after turning down the payment.
