Trump grants $6.8 billion in non-competitive Arctic ship contracts
According to The New York Times, President Donald Trump has issued no-bid contracts totaling $6.8 billion to construct 11 vessels for Arctic operations. The report noted that the US Coast Guard had previously indicated a requirement for only four or five ships. Additionally, the initial four vessels are set to be manufactured in Finland, even though US regulations generally forbid building national security ships in foreign countries.
