TRAI plans to regulate Truecaller's spam labels, CEO warns of consequences

Reports suggest that TRAI is looking to oversee caller ID applications and limit the use of 'spam' or 'frequently blocked' tags on 140-series promotional numbers and 1600-series service numbers. Truecaller CEO Rishit Jhunjhunwala argued that these restrictions would increase spam calls across India. He noted that users currently block 4 lakh calls from 140-series numbers and 1.25 lakh calls from 1600-series numbers every day. Additionally, he stated that more than 51 million such calls remain unanswered daily.
