A small asteroid, identified as 2026 RW1, made contact with the atmosphere above the Indian Ocean, located northwest of Australia. Measuring between 0.6 and 1.3 metres, the space rock was spotted just hours prior to its entry and subsequently burned up. According to NASA, this marks only the 13th instance where an asteroid has been identified ahead of an impact.
