Tata Steel UK warns low-cost Asian imports risk local jobs and market stability
Tata Steel has cautioned that the influx of inexpensive Asian steel puts British manufacturing roles at risk, potentially turning the UK into a destination for excess imports. The company noted that duty-free quotas established through trade agreements, such as the one with India, could negatively impact local manufacturers. This concern arises after the annual tariff-free allowance for Indian galvanised steel was increased from 98,000 tonnes to 1,25,000 tonnes as part of updated trade terms.
