Tamil Nadu mulls birth incentives amid declining fertility rates

Tamil Nadu Health Minister KG Arunraj mentioned on Sunday that the state is exploring potential incentives to encourage couples to expand their families. He noted that the Total Fertility Rate in the state has dropped under 1.4, which is significantly lower than the 2.1 replacement threshold, calling the situation a significant public health issue. Arunraj further pointed out that approximately 16% of the state's residents are now over the age of 60.
