Over 2,000 pairs were left underground for a two-month period, as quicker breakdown rates serve as a sign of higher biological activity. The results, which were recently published, revealed that the fabric disintegrated most rapidly in home gardens, while lawns showed the slowest rate of decay. The team behind the study suggested creating an "Underpants Index" as a way to clarify how soil functions.
