Surat fish traders object to naming new market after PM Modi
A controversy began when the Surat Fish Merchant Association put up a sign naming a new market the 'Shree Narendra Modi Wholesale Fish Market' without getting permission from local authorities. Speaking for the Kahar-Machhi community, fish trader Surendra Lashkari stated, '[PM] Modi has never consumed seafood...and is a pure vegetarian...this board shouldn't be put up.' Meanwhile, the association's president, Kalpesh Navsariwala, stood by the decision.
