Supreme Court tells Odisha to rule on plea by missionary killer
The Supreme Court has instructed the Odisha administration to reach a decision by August 15 regarding the early release application filed by Dara Singh. Singh is currently serving a life term for the 1999 killings of Australian missionary Graham Stuart Staines and his two young sons. Remarking on the timing, the bench stated, "Let him also celebrate Independence Day." Singh submitted his request for premature freedom in 2024, arguing that he has been incarcerated for more than 24 years and has expressed remorse for his actions.
