Supreme Court asks Airtel, Vi to respond to government's spectrum fee appeal
The Supreme Court has requested replies from Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea regarding the government's challenge to a Bombay High Court decision. The High Court had previously ruled against the retrospective one-time spectrum charges (OTSC). This fee, which was initially requested in 2013, amounts to approximately ₹22,000 crore and includes ₹3,300 crore in bank guarantees. The Centre maintains that because spectrum is a public asset, telecom companies are required to pay its market-determined price.
