Sugar prices reach all-time high with 20% surge due to ethanol shift
Sugar costs have climbed by approximately 20%, reaching unprecedented levels throughout India just before the festive period. According to an India Today report, this price hike is partly driven by the diversion of sugarcane toward ethanol manufacturing, supported by the government's E20 initiative. In response, authorities have restricted sugar stock limits, mandating that dealers handling more than 10 MT per month must not keep inventories for longer than 15 days.
