SpaceX rocket fragment leaves new crater on Moon after high-speed crash

A spent SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket booster, roughly the height of a five-story structure, appears to have formed a fresh crater upon slamming into the Moon at a speed of approximately 8,700 kmph this Wednesday. The four-tonne piece of debris hit the lunar northern hemisphere in the vicinity of the Einstein Crater. Although the collision did not endanger Earth, it marks an uncommon instance of man-made debris striking the surface of the Moon.
