Solar power emerges as Pakistan's primary electricity source as costs soar
Due to surging power bills and regular power cuts, Pakistanis are increasingly turning to solar energy, which has now become the nation's biggest power source during periods of high demand. From 2023 to 2025, the country installed 27 GW of distributed solar power. Currently, rooftop solar panels provide almost 28% of the nation's electricity, a significant jump from the 10% recorded two years earlier. Pakistan remains among the leading global importers of solar panels from China.
