Six giant landslides found on Pluto, with one measuring double the size of Manhattan
Researchers have re-examined information gathered during NASA’s 2015 New Horizons mission and found six major landslides close to Sputnik Planitia on Pluto. The biggest slide covered approximately 130 square kilometers, which is about two times the landmass of Manhattan. These Pluto landslides move across surprising distances, indicating minimal friction. This is likely due to the dwarf planet's weak gravity combined with the presence of unstable nitrogen and methane ice in its freezing environment.
