Sitharaman rejects claims that MDR will impact UPI users, clarifies it only applies to merchants
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has dismissed allegations by Congress leader Jairam Ramesh that the suggested changes to payment laws would increase UPI costs for everyday users. She explained that the Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) is charged only to merchants and not to the end consumers. "More importantly, the UPI and Services Steering Committee, headed by NPCI, is yet to decide on the MDR," she further stated.
