SIAM warned govt in 2021 that E20 fuel rollout could render older cars obsolete
A 2021 NITI Aayog report titled 'Roadmap for Ethanol Blending in India' revealed that the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) requested the government to keep E10 petrol accessible alongside the introduction of E20 fuel. SIAM cautioned that stopping E10 supply is a major issue, stating it would make vehicles sold before 2028 unusable. The industry body further highlighted that using E20 fuel in vehicles not designed for it could lead to potential safety risks.
