Sharia courts lack power to grant divorces, can only provide opinions: Chhattisgarh HC
The Chhattisgarh High Court has ruled that a decision by a Sharia court in Raipur, which had declared a woman divorced from her spouse, is invalid. In overturning the triple talaq ruling issued by the religious body, the High Court emphasized that while private religious institutions are free to share their views, they do not possess the legal standing to change marital rights or issue binding divorce decrees.
