Scientists determine dimensions of the biggest galaxy discovered
Researchers have calculated the total scale of the massive galaxy IC 1101 by obtaining its most detailed imagery to date. This galaxy stretches across approximately 1.7 million light-years and is believed to hold about 3.4 trillion solar masses worth of stars. IC 1101 is nearly 17 times the size of our own Milky Way, and its stellar mass exceeds the entire mass of the Milky Way.
