SC: Voter list removal does not equal loss of citizenship
The Supreme Court clarified that if an individual's name is removed from the electoral roll during a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, it does not mean they have automatically lost their citizenship. The court emphasized that the Election Commission lacks the power to decide on citizenship matters, noting that being excluded from the voter list is not enough to strip someone of their citizenship status. These observations were made by the court while it was hearing a petition on the matter.
