Saree acts as a rescue rope for 21 Indian pilgrims in Nepal
A group of 21 pilgrims from Chennai managed to escape Nepal's flash floods after being pulled to safety using a saree. The garment was dropped down to them from the peak of a mud-slicked embankment. The majority of the travelers were aged 50 or older. After the bus driver identified the rising threat, he instructed the passengers to get off the vehicle and scramble to higher ground. One woman who had already reached the top used her saree to haul the others up to safety.
