Russian authorities detain Putin opponent Boris Nadezhdin
Boris Nadezhdin, a 63-year-old vocal critic of President Vladimir Putin, has been taken into custody by Russian police. The arrest comes months ahead of his scheduled participation in parliamentary elections. Nadezhdin stated that he faces accusations of "demonstrating extremist symbols" linked to a 2023 video that included an image of the deceased opposition figure Alexei Navalny. Previously, Nadezhdin had collected enough signatures to challenge Putin in the 2024 presidential race, but he was ultimately disqualified from the ballot.
