Russia excluded from Chess Olympiad for third time in a row
Russian squads are set to sit out their third Chess Olympiad in a row following FIDE's decision to turn down their request to participate as neutral athletes in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. Russia had previously been absent from the 2022 and 2024 tournaments. The Russian Chess Federation faced suspension this past June due to non-compliance with a Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) directive regarding its operations in occupied regions of Ukraine.
