Researchers engineer 'living plastic' capable of self-destruction in six days

Experts at the American Chemical Society have produced a new type of self-destructing plastic that incorporates engineered bacteria. This material fully decomposes within six days and leaves behind no microplastic waste. By heating the bacteria to roughly 50 degrees Celsius, the plastic generates a pair of enzymes in a specific order, which ensures the material breaks down entirely rather than just shattering into smaller pieces.
