Researchers create edible cookies using plastic and corn waste
A team of researchers at Southern Illinois University Carbondale has successfully produced edible cookies by combining plastic, yeast, and leftover corn stalks. The process involves using yeast to convert plastic materials into consumable proteins, which are then processed through a 3D printer to form the cookies. This project received support from NASA's Deep Space Food Challenge, an initiative aimed at finding innovative ways to provide food for astronauts during extended space missions.
