Research suggests short-form videos may briefly dull brain function
According to research featured in the journal NeuroImage, viewing short-form content like YouTube Shorts or Instagram Reels might cause a brief dip in brain activity related to focus, decision-making, and self-regulation. The study monitored the brain patterns of 56 young adults as they engaged with these clips. Scientists noted that when viewers found a video entertaining, there was a decrease in activity within the brain's primary cognitive-control centers.
