Research indicates one week of meditation can alter brain function
According to a report published in Communications Biology, a seven-day period of meditation and mind-body exercises led to shifts in metabolism, the immune system, and brain structure. The research tracked 20 adults who attended a week-long retreat. Following the program, the participants showed reduced brain activity in areas associated with internal mental noise while meditating. Additionally, the practice seemed to trigger the body’s natural systems for managing pain.
