Research connects male semen bacterial imbalance to increased miscarriage risk
According to a study featured in The Lancet Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Women's Health, an uneven distribution of bacteria in male semen is associated with a greater chance of pregnancy loss and reduced rates of successful births. Data from couples undergoing IVF showed that 57% of those with seminal dysbiosis achieved a live birth, whereas the success rate was 85% for those without the condition. Investigators noted that further research is required before implementing routine testing or medical interventions for the semen microbiome.
