A new report by HiRISK has questioned if warning indicators were overlooked prior to the fatal floods in Nepal. Days before a glacier collapsed and caused a destructive landslide, scientists had spotted brown meltwater alongside an expanding crack on the slope. Although identifying these shifts was challenging, researchers noted that more robust downstream warning systems providing just 10 minutes of notice could have saved many lives.
