Scientists in Thailand have identified Thismia daemona, a unique plant species that grows without leaves or chlorophyll. Documented in August 2026, this so-called "devil flower" does not use photosynthesis, relying instead on underground fungi for nutrients. Found within Thong Pha Phum National Park, the plant is considered critically endangered. With fewer than 50 specimens remaining, the species faces a major threat from tourists walking through the area and damaging its delicate environment.
