Pune tourists rescued after smartwatch SOS alerts police to extortion attempt
A group of four travelers heading from Pune to Lonavala were reportedly abducted close to Kamshet by individuals pretending to be Highway Safety Patrol officers. According to police, the suspects intimidated the victims by threatening to implicate them in a fabricated narcotics case and demanded a payment of ₹5 lakh. After one of the tourists managed to trigger an SOS alert through their smartwatch, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police intervened and successfully rescued the group following a seven-hour standoff.
