A comprehensive eight-year study covering 7,680 km throughout the Ganga River Basin shows that only 0.26% (2,138 sq km) of the area serves as an ideal habitat for the vulnerable smooth-coated otter. Scientists from the WII employed ensemble modeling techniques to identify these final essential sanctuaries for the top aquatic predator.
