Proposed amendment could make disrupting Vande Mataram a punishable offense

The central government is considering an amendment to the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971, which would make it a punishable crime to intentionally insult or hinder the singing of Vande Mataram. The administration intends to present this Bill during the next Monsoon Session. At present, the law already allows for a fine, a jail sentence of up to three years, or both, for those who interfere with the National Anthem.
