Proposed 17 lakh satellites could have 'devastating' impact on astronomy: Study

A recent study by the European Southern Observatory (ESO) has revealed that plans to send more than 17 lakh satellites into orbit, some of which are highly luminous, may lead to "devastating consequences for astronomy". The research suggests that to protect our capacity to view the night sky using advanced telescopes, the number of faint satellites orbiting Earth—which cannot be seen with the naked eye—should be limited to a maximum of 100,000.
