Passport is just a travel document, not citizenship proof: Ex-SC judge criticizes govt stance
Following the government's statement that a passport serves only as a travel document rather than definitive evidence of citizenship, former Supreme Court Justice Madan B Lokur remarked that a passport has essentially been downgraded to the status of a bus ticket. Calling the government's position a misinterpretation of the law, he questioned how many non-citizens have actually been issued Indian passports.
