Palestine plans first parliamentary vote in almost two decades
Palestine is preparing for its first legislative elections in nearly 20 years. Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has set the date for November 2026, allowing residents in the West Bank, Gaza, and Jerusalem to choose representatives for the Palestinian Legislative Council. The previous election took place in 2006, during which Hamas won 76 of the 132 available seats, defeating the Fatah party led by Abbas.
