A bipartisan group of more than 60 US senators is supporting legislation that would impose tariffs as high as 100% on the five largest purchasers of Russian oil, a list that includes India. The proposed bill does, however, provide an exemption for American allies in Europe that rely on Russian natural gas. A previous iteration of this legislation had suggested a flat 500% tariff on those same top five buyers.
