Over 1 lakh trees to be cleared for Indore-Mumbai rail project
The central government has granted conditional clearance to cut down approximately 1.40 lakh trees to facilitate the 156-km Mhow-Khandwa railway gauge conversion in Madhya Pradesh. Out of this total, about 1.24 lakh trees are located within the Indore district. This project involves upgrading the existing metre-gauge track to broad gauge, with a completion deadline set for 2030. Once finished, the line is expected to provide better rail connectivity between Indore, Mumbai, and the southern parts of India.
