American startup Orbital has applied to the Federal Communications Commission for authorization to launch a fleet of 1,00,000 satellites equipped with AI data centres. This proposed network intends to provide 10 GW of computing capacity powered by solar energy in space, bypassing limitations found on Earth. According to the company, processing data in orbit could assist with AI tasks while decreasing energy expenses and environmental damage in the long run.
