NMC: Private medical colleges cannot charge MBBS fees past 4.5 years

The National Medical Commission (NMC) informed the Kerala High Court that private medical institutions are prohibited from collecting tuition fees for MBBS programs after the 4.5-year academic period. The commission clarified that the mandatory one-year internship is a phase of practical training rather than formal classroom study. Furthermore, the NMC stated that colleges are required to return any payments already taken for the extra six months. The Kerala High Court is currently reviewing the case to reach a final decision.
