New RBI guidelines safeguard borrowers against harsh loan recovery tactics
The Reserve Bank of India has introduced a fresh set of regulations to protect borrower privacy by barring lenders from gaining access to personal photos, contact lists, or location information. To prevent harassment, the rules mandate that recovery agents must complete IIBF training. Additionally, lenders are required to store call recordings for a minimum of six months and restrict collection calls to the hours between 8 AM and 7 PM. The new policy explicitly forbids the use of offensive language, public humiliation, and the intimidation of a borrower's family members.
