Mumbai auto drivers strike against Marathi language mandate

Auto-rickshaw drivers in Mumbai have launched a three-day protest against the rule requiring taxi, cab, and auto drivers to know the Marathi language. One driver remarked, "We are 55 to 60 years old and have never attended school. How are we expected to speak Marathi? If we had received an education, we would be working in offices." Another driver added that while they are making efforts to learn, they are facing penalties rather than being granted a reasonable period to meet the requirement.
